Computer science combines the intellectual challenge of a young discipline with the excitement of an innovative and rapidly expanding technology. It has been an active area at VAAGDEVI DEGREE AND PG COLLEGE for 27 years and has been a department for nearly 27 years. The department resides in for Information Technology, a striking building housing many of the University’s computing activities. Faculty, staff and students are provided state-of-the-art computing facilities managed by the department’s technical staff.
The Department of Computer Science offers standard B.Sc(m), B.Sc(b),BCA andB.com(ca) concentrations, standard concentrations in mathematics and computer science, economics and computer science, and computational biology, as well as a Master’s program such as MCA and M.Sc(CS).
The undergraduate program is designed to combine educational breadth in practical and theoretical computer science with deeper understanding of specialized areas with CBCS PATTERN. Undergraduate concentrations in computer science encourage students to take both theoretical courses that develop logical and mathematical reasoning abilities and practical courses that provide experience in the construction, design, and implementation of real computing systems.
The Department of Computer Science at vaagdevi degree and p.g college is one of the largest departments . We offer a broad range of modern undergraduate programmes and a host of opportunities at Masters level. Our industry engaged programmes match the needs of our economy and have a reputation for producing the most employable computer science graduates in the region. These highly skilled graduates are in huge demand and contribute significantly to the development of the region. As technology plays a greater role in our society the growth in the demand for these graduates continues year after year. Our faculty teach students how to think critically and apply logical reasoning to solve complex problems. Students learn key transferable skills that make them both competitive and adaptable when they enter the workforce. The increasing demand for our graduates has led to above average and faster wage growth in this field relative to others. There are many exciting industry and research opportunities for graduates in roles such as Software Development, Cybersecurity, System Administration, machine learning, Big Data, Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Research, IT Management and many more.
The field of Computer Science is always growing and changing. Our cities, homes, cars and accessories will become smarter as they connect to the Internet and to each other. New and improved computing technology will continue to create new opportunities and challenge. Our graduates have the skills to meet the challenges and opportunities. Staff from the Department of Computer Science work closely with industry to create programme content that’s current and relevant. As a result, students gain relevant skills and knowledge that will benefit them for years to come.
The computer science department has a well furnished labs with latest and updated computers.we also has a smart lab with full-fledged technology. The department is equipped with adequate infrastructure to support academic, research and extra-curricular activities for the all-round development of our students with 25 well-qualified, skilled and experienced faculty members. The department frequently organizes workshops, talks and faculty development programs regularly for the benefit of the student and faculty community. The department has an impressive placement track record with 85% of the students placed in reputed organizations.
Highly Respected Qualification: It is highly recognised for its excellence in learning and engagement with industry.
Small lab groups: We operate small lab groups to ensure no one gets lost in the crowd and everyone can get the help they need to progress.
Focus is on labs/practicals:50% to 80% of time spent with the lecturer on each module is in labs. The best way to learn is by doing.
Fundamental to Advanced: In the first semester, you’ll learn the basics of several Computer Science topics. Each semester, you’ll build on that knowledge to an advanced level by final year.
Quality: Computer Science lecturers are highly-qualified experts and researchers in many areas including:
Programming (Java, Python, C, PHP, and JavaScript - the languages that allow you to create applications to do things)
Data Analytics (making sense of the information in our world)
Internet of Things (creating smart everyday items)
Information Security (keeping your private information safe)
Cloud Computing (store/process information in the cloud)
Artificial Intelligence (making computers/machines thinks like us).
DataScience(it in order to "understand and analyze actual phenomena" with data.)
If you’ve studied computer science, you will have gained many technical and non-technical skills which are highly valued by employers, from leadership to programming. The increasing scope of computer science means you have plenty of choice in a wide variety of highly specialized areas.
Computer technologies are integral to modern life, so you’re likely to find your computer science skills in high demand across many different industries. These include financial organizations, management consultancy firms, software houses, communications companies, data warehouses, multinational companies, governmental agencies, universities and hospitals.
As always, it’s extremely beneficial to have completed relevant work experience. You should also consider compiling a portfolio of your own independent projects outside of your degree, which could be in the form of programming, moderating online or even building an app. This will demonstrate to employers your interest in the subject and your problem-solving skills, creativity and initiative.
A full-stack software developer is one of the most important. It involves the fundamental task of creating software programs that allow the users of the software to do the desired job they want to do on the various peripherals they use. In simple terms, they create applications or programs that are compatible in such a way that the software could be viewed on any device so that it is easy to handle and also very portable in view.
For careers after B.Sc Computer Science, read on.
Programming languages:
C, C++, C#, Java, Python, and many others are some programming languages that require a proper command. Hence this career is considered best for a B-tech student.
Uniqueness
Software engineers have the intellectual imagination they need to address app-specific challenges creatively. It is a requirement for students to be proficient in programming languages so that they can compose the ideal software code. Communication skills are essential to understand the user ’s perspective on how the software works.
Working in partnership with clients, an IT consultant advises clients on the planning, design, installation and usage of information technology systems to meet their business objectives, overcome problems or improve the structure and efficiency of their IT systems.
A similar role to an IT consultant, an information systems manager is usually a full-time member of staff, responsible for the secure and effective operation of computer systems within their company. You ’ll be responsible (perhaps with the help of a team of IT staff) for the entire upkeep of the ICT infrastructure within your organization, with typical tasks involving the overseeing of system installation; ensuring systems are backed-up and that the back-up systems are operating effectively; purchasing hardware and software; setting up secure access for all users; ensuring security of data from internal and external attack; and providing IT support and advice for users.
A database administrator (DBA) is responsible for accurately and securely using, developing and maintaining the performance, integrity and security of a computerized database. The specific role is always determined by the organization in question but is likely to mean being involved purely in database maintenance or specialized in database development.
A multimedia programmer is responsible for designing and creating multimedia computer products, making sure they ’re functional and maintaining fidelity to a designer ’s specification. You ’ll use creative as well as technical skills to develop multimedia features including text, sound, graphics, digital photography, 2D/3D modelling, animation and video.
Depending on what computer science specializations you studied during your degree, you may wish to specialize as a cyber security consultant or an information security specialist. Maintaining cyber security has become increasingly important, so in this role you will focus on understanding the risks to the security of information or data.

A systems analyst uses computers and associated systems to design new IT solutions, as well as modifying and improving current systems to integrate new features or enhancements, all with the aim of improving business efficiency and productivity.
