It offers undergraduate programs with diverse combinations such as BZC, BZCS, BTZC, NDZC, and FSZC, along with specialized tracks in dairy science. The postgraduate M.Sc. Zoology program, introduced in 2005–06, admits students through PGCET and management quotas, providing advanced training over two years. The curriculum is comprehensive, covering invertebrate diversity, embryology, cell biology, genetics, ecology, and biotechnology, with strong emphasis on applied fields like aquaculture, apiculture, sericulture, and animal husbandry. To enhance employability, add-on courses such as Vermicomposting, sericulture, aquaculture, and medical diagnostics are offered.
The department conducts regular reports and meetings with supervisors as well as meetings with an additional study adviser separate from the supervisor. You will also undertake a comprehensive programme on introduction to Research, which provides extensive training in transferable skills.
The department actively promotes experiential learning through projects, seminars, workshops, internships, and events like PRANI-Q 2K26. With a focus on fostering scientific temperament and research aptitude, graduates are well-prepared for careers in organizations such as the Zoological Survey of India, CCMB, ICAR institutes, and medical colleges, contributing to their holistic development.
Our graduates have been very successful in finding employment. Many graduates take up a research career in universities, research institutes or industry. Others take up careers in education, public services or publishing.
